Placing your order

An order should be placed 4-5 days in advance of when it will be needed.

Getting ready

Prepare the ground: The ground will need to be prepared in advance of the sod’s arrival. Please see our Preparing for Your New Lawn page for details.

How much sod: Determine the amount of sod you will need by multiplying the length by the width to get the total square footage (example: an area 50 feet wide by 70 feet long /50*70 = 3,500 square feet). Accurate measuring is essential, and a good rule of thumb is to order approximately 2% more sod than the actual measurement to account for measuring mistakes and irregular shaped areas.

How many rolls: Each of our sod rolls will cover 10 square feet. Please remember to divide the total area that you have to cover by 10, so that you order the correct number of rolls. If you have 3500 square feet to cover, you will need to order 350 rolls. If you have 2400 square feet to cover, you will order 240 rolls.

Sod calculator

Whether you plan to install the sod yourself or have someone else do it, you will need to figure out how much sod to order. You can use our our handy calculator and instuctions on calculating the area of different shaped areas. For more detailed instructions, please see below.

Circle: Take the radius (the distance from the center of the circle to its edge) and square it (multiply it by itself), then take this number and multiply it by Pi (3.14). For example:10 ft x 10 x 3.14 = 314 sq ft

Rectangle or square: Multiply the width times the length for total area. For example: 50 ft x 70 ft = 3500 sq ft.

Triangle: Multiply the base times the height, and then divide by 2 (area = base x height / 2). For example: 10 ft x 20 ft = 200 ft / 2 = 100 sq ft.

Oddly shaped lawn: You will need to roughly divide the area into squares, triangles, etc. Calculate each separate piece and add them together.
